Students in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures can study nine languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Irish, Italian, and Spanish and choose to major in five different programs: French and Francophone Studies, German Studies, Italian Studies, Hispanic Studies, and Spanish for International Service.  
 
To place the study of language and culture into an interdisciplinary context, we also offer minors and certificate degrees in Arabic and Islamic World Studies, Asian Studies, European Studies, French and Francophone Studies, German Studies, Hispanic Studies, Irish Studies, Italian Studies, Latin American and Latino Studies, and Spanish for Healthcare.
