Yuan-Hsi Chao was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan. He got his B.A. in History from National Chung-Hsing University. Subsequently, he got his M.A. in Art Studies from National Central University with a focus on Chinese art history. While he was studying for his master’s degree, he received the teaching certificate in high school history issued by the Ministry of Education. In addition, he completed several programs for teaching Chinese as a second/foreign language from different institutions, including Mandarin Training Center at National Taiwan Normal University, ALLEX-WUSTL (Alliance for Language Learning and Educational Exchange and Washington University in St. Louis) Teacher Training Institute, and Tamkang University.

It will be his second time teaching Chinese in the United States. In 2019 – 2020, he taught Chinese at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida. He enjoyed the experience of instructing his mother tongue to undergraduate students in the United States, which brought him a sense of accomplishment. After teaching at Stetson University and getting back to Taiwan, he worked as a teaching assistant and then as a teacher, teaching online programs at the Chinese Learning Center at Tamkang University. Meanwhile, he also worked as a part-time research assistant at National Palace Museum, helping a researcher collect and organize files.

Yuan-Hsi treasures the opportunity of being able to teach Chinese to American students in Washington, D.C. He will spare no efforts to fulfill his responsibility. With his experiences before, he will surely be able to do the job well. As an art and history lover, he can’t wait to explore all museums in Washington, D.C. and he will definitely have a good time here.
