Students in the Department of Modern Languages and Literatures can study nine languages: American Sign Language, Arabic, Catalan, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German, Irish, Italian, and Spanish and choose to major in five different programs: French and Francophone Studies, German Studies, Italian Studies, Hispanic Studies, and Spanish for International Service.  
 
To place the study of language and culture into an interdisciplinary context, we offer a major and minor in Global Studies. We also offer minors and certificates degree in Islamic World Studies, Irish Studies, and Spanish for Healthcare.
