The Certificate in Spanish for Health Care is an interdisciplinary program that equips students and professionals with the linguistic and cultural competencies essential for today’s global and multilingual health care environments. Designed for students in nursing, public health, psychology, biology, biomedical engineering, and social work, the program prepares participants to communicate effectively with Spanish-speaking patients and families, address health disparities, and succeed in culturally diverse clinical and community settings.

  • 15 credit (5 course) interdisciplinary program; typically completed in 3-4 semesters (1-2 years)
  • Develop practical Spanish-language skills for clinical and community settings
  • Participate in a Medical Spanish Health Care Internship
  • Explore global perspectives through international clinical practicums

Curriculum

The Spanish for Healthcare Certificate consists of 5 courses:

  • The core courses: SPAN 207 and SPAN 208 (or SPAN 208H)
    • Prerequisites: SPAN 103HC and/or SPAN 104HC and/or placement at appropriate level
  • Three electives from the following list:
